The regional workshops are planned for June 8 in St. Petersburg, Fla.; Aug. 8 in Chicago; Oct. 18 in St. Louis; Oct. 25 in Albuquerque, N.M.; and early fall in Oklahoma City and Washington, D.C.
ACES also will use the grant to help establish a financially sustainable regional conference plan.
“ACES realizes that the need for editing training and clarity of content is more crucial than ever, but editors are constrained by finances and time,” said Teresa Schmedding, the president of ACES. “Flying across the country for a three-day conference isn’t as feasible as it was 10 years ago. ACES is committed to bringing the training to those who need it through intensive one-day sessions in cities across the U.S.”
ACES application for funding to support regional training events was selected by the foundation’s board for funding earlier this year.
“ACES is excited to be able to offer many more regional workshops than we’ve previously been able to present,” said Lisa McLendon, ACES vice president for conferences. “We’re grateful for the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation grant, which will enable us to bring training to a greater number of copy editors around the country.”
